I like to think of it like this: they died earlier than we generally do. They had to make it count. Wasn’t it either Milton or Dante who wrote something epic or other around 21-25. Really gave everyone else a complex that later followed. And, of course, we can’t forget Montaigne. Apparently, (from my reading at least) anything after 30 is ancient. We start to get stupid and slow then, haha.
