say my age, say my age

Filling out a survey, I realized I’m about to leave the standard 18-24 group. File that under things I’m not exactly ready for. This shit’s whack.

The Greatest Sir of Them All

Today is Sir Sean Connery’s 80th birthday.

April 1966

It is a great day for all the world. Without Sir Sean, who would have been the first James Bond? The father of Indiana Jones? The rough-around-the-edges mentor in Finding Forrester? The sexy Scotsman. The stylish stud.

July 1989

This is a holiday. So raise your glass and make a toast to this cinema godsend.

Forget About the World

… I’m groovin’ with my girl. – John Legend

It’s my birthday, again. It’s happens every year around this time. Days got long and I was born. Howsabout that.

Despite an upsetting episode involving move-out, today was great. I worked both jobs for a bit. I had lunch with Carey. After work I ran to Target, bought some wine and a couple baking supplies, and was met at home by a dear friend toting half-cheeseburger-half-four-cheese pizza, and a personal-sized ice cream birthday cake! Big Tomato Pizza gets checked off the TDL!

Then my old roomie (funny, the pizza-delivery girl is also an old roomie!) came over, shared some pizza and gave me a book I can’t wait to read. After a gab session, Jenny peaced and Emily and I started baking cookies (peanut butter oatmeal rounds). They’re all cooling off for my going away party tomorrow.

And now I’m sitting on my flooring listening to John Legend. Most of which I purchased on my last birthday in preparation for the John Legend concert. sigh. It’s really been a great year. Don’t let me down, 24.

A Year

I can’t believe I missed my own birthday/anniversary! Today as I sat at the sorority house while some of my sisters were getting ready to go out, I realized that I had started blogging this time last year.

Awwww.

I’d say a lot has happened in that  year. I graduated. I got a part-time job, more gigs in the mag world, and into grad school. I learned to cook more things than just cheese tortillas (boiling water for pasta was a big step). I became addicted to Netflix. I had a random guy ask me for my number for the first time. I visited Boston. I saw some amazing concerts and signed my first apartment lease. I did some things I had always wanted, and definitely discovered some new things about myself.

I wasn’t ready for a lot of it. I’m not as ‘disheveled’ as I was in my first post– although I’m still quite uncertain. But it’s cool. I like where I’m at, who I’m with, and where I’m going. And there are a lot more unexpected things to come.

Cheers!

Old Balls

I thought 23 would be worse. Yes, yes I know someone always asks, “Feel any different?”and you want to punch them because of course you don’t. But really, I thought it might. 2008 was the last “cool” birthday for me: 22 on the 22nd. Still, not even that cool, and I spent 95% of the day alone traveling home from California. So I pretty much banked on this year sucking, simply because I’m now old balls. But hey, you know what, it’s not that bad. I feel like more of an adult than I have previously. Not actually but it is my first birthday in the real world. It just feels older.

But regardless of age. Yesterday did produce some pretty great things.
1. Multiple Facbeook posts and a dead-on someecard
2. A funny  2 am voicemail from my favorite voicemail-leaver Tanner
3. Three tickets to see John Legend on July 22 with two of my favorite people EVER
(yes you are hearing angels singing in the background)
4. The purchase of two John Legend CDs
5. Chinese take-out
6. A viewing of Robin Hood Men in Tights
7. A DQ ice cream cake care of my lovely roommates
